Experiencing Chinese New Year at Rizal Technological University

February 8, 2019 - Rizal Technological University through its Office of the Vice President for Programs, Research and Extension Services, and in partnership with the Taiwan Education Center and International Relations Office presented a cultural activity entitled 'Experiencing Chinese New Year' at the RTU penthouse. The program engaged RTU students and faculty members in a workshop facilitated by Ms. Wang Wei-Xu where they experienced lantern making and also learned some basic Mandarin greetings.

The program was hailed with inspirational messages from Dr. Julius L. Meneses the V. P. for Programs, Research and Extension Services, Mr. Richmond Huang from the Taiwan Education Center, and Dr. David Lee the Director of TECO Philippines Education Division. A brief orientation on various scholarship opportunities and study visits to Taiwan ignited the students' interest to Taiwan and its culture as shown in their active participation. A taste of Filipino culture was also incorporated in the program through the traditional dances performed by RTU's Teatro Rizalia.

This program paves the way for a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture which raises cultural awareness for Filipino students as well as exposure to foreign language through interactive ways of learning. Through this type of activities, future collaborations between Rizal Technological University and the Universities in Taiwan have stronger foundation as students are not only learning in theory but also in practice.
